HEART OF THE HILLS MARKET

The Old Onkaparinga Woollen Mill is a perfect setting for the bustling Heart of the Hills Market. Once the Mill’s huge looms manufactured the famous “Onkaparinga” woollen blankets and other products, employing more than 100 local people.

Today the market is a hive of activity. Fne foods displayed include fresh local fruit and vegetables, gourmet herbs and spices, olive oil, honey, hand crafted cheeses, lollies and toffees, ice creams and beautifully presented preserves, jams and sauces.

Craftspeople showcase their wares – colourful ceramics, handcrafted leather handbags, jewellery, ornaments, pictures and photographs, sun catchers, wall hangings, wood carvings, furniture and collectables. You can ask about an item being especially made for you.

There are quality second hand books to browse, bewitching aromas from candles and oils and interesting giftware.

One of the old looms from the Mill has pride of place and the Gumeracha Spinners and weavers are busy with their craft. Merino wool products can be purchased.

You can relax at the coffee shop with a cappuccino or tea and a variety of pies, quiches, cakes and slices are on offer.

The wineries are not to be missed. Wine made from grape varieties grown locally, is world class and offered mostly direct from winemakers. On chilly winter’s days you find a special treat – Mulled Wine. This top class wine with secret ingredients added is served piping hot to warm the cockles of your heart.

Whether you meet friends, or have family birthdays to buy for, the Heart of the Hills Market offers an enjoyable experience.
